This drawing depicts a scene of a building under construction, with a stark moment of light and shadow as the focal point. In an abstracted, simplified context, the finely detailed lifts become ‘characters’ that invite the viewer to contemplate a larger narrative about building construction and the ‘mystery’ of trade work as observed by the lay person.

Architectural Appendages is a series of 55 drawings that focus on 11 cities in southeastern Minnesota: Red Wing, Wabasha, Caledonia, Preston, Austin, Albert Lea, Owatonna, Faribault, Mantorville, and Rochester.
The series was funded through a SEMAC Emerging Artist Grant, and most recently shown at the Rochester Art Center in 2018.
“13 Parking Structures” is a documentation of the 13 parking ramps that reside in the downtown core of Rochester, MN. The work selections seen here are one third of a collaboration with artists Jon Allen (video) and Chris Kostelec (photographs). The detailed colored pencil and pen drawings depict views of nearby parking structures as seen from the highest point of the adjacent parking structures.

This series of 10 colored pencil drawings captures intimate details of residential homes and neighborhoods in Rochester, MN. They are meant to help you see underappreciated or unnoticed moments in a ubiquitous human-made landscape. The drawings are the size of a postcard - 4” x 6” - with the notion that they are pieces of a travelogue that let the viewer experience a familiar, banal environment anew.
The show's title image shows the route through Rochester, MN from which the content for this series was generated.
